The Simple Woman's Daybook Entry ~ 

For today.....

Outside my window.....the sky is the darkest shade of blue with stars glittering.

I am thinking.....about my oldest son's high school graduation ceremony, which will be next weekend on the 17th of May, Saturday.  I'm counting down the days.

I am thankful.....for so much!  Thank you God, for my son, Jacob.  I am so honored that you bestowed him to me to be his mother.  I can still remember the joy I felt in my soul, when he was placed into my arms after giving birth to him.  

In the kitchen.....are dirty dishes in the sink.  Our kitchen countertop is untidy and the floor needs sweeping.

But my mind and heart are elsewhere.  I'm thinking about my children.  They have made me so happy.

I am wearing..... jeans that are care worn, tennis shoes and a white t-shirt.  My daughter, Melinda, and I went for our usual evening walk a couple of hours ago.  We took our dog, Sadie, with us.  She loves to

 come with us.  

I am creating..... memories to keep in my heart of these passing days before summer begins.  I have one more final exam to take tomorrow before the semester ends.  My children are continuing their homeschooling which last all year 'round.  They prefer it that way.  So do I.  

I am going.....to do some sewing and gardening soon, which I am looking forward to.

I am wondering.....about the present and the future.  Why is it that things and my surroundings stand out more than I can ever remember in my life?  My husband said it's because we are getting older.  I don't know, except that I'm acutely aware of everything around me all of the time.. sometimes it feels like I'm seeing things, for the very first time, which doesn't make sense to me at all.

I am reading.....The Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska.  There's much to absorb while reading.

I am hoping.....for a wonderful day tomorrow.  It's starting to get hot.  In the evenings, it gets cooler and there's a breeze that's feels so good when you're walking outdoors, as I have been doing with my daughter.

I am looking forward to.....being off next weekend.  It will be like a mini vacation for me.  

I am learning.....how to take better care of myself.  I'm trying to exercise every day by walking and I still need to lose 15 more pounds.  I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes last year in December.  Improving on my food intake and exercise is an absolute must now.

Around the house....my children are all in their rooms, either watching TV or reading.  The house is cozy and quiet.  We just finished paying for a new roof.  The roofers were here for four days.  It's completed now.  Our housetop looks so nice!

A favorite quote for today...actually is not a quote. It goes:

The Simple Woman's Daybook Entry ~ April 17th

For Today...

Outside my window...no sun; the sky is cloudy

I am thinking....about how much schoolwork I have left to complete this evening

before I'm done.  

I am thankful....for my family.  My kids keep me going....always.

In the kitchen....there's coffee brewing!  It sounds like music to me.  Fresh coffee

along with buttered toast to eat.  The kitchen floor has been stripped of linoleum and 

bleached/cleaned until they're a powdered white.  My husband will

be going to Lowe's today to purchase some new linoleum.  

I am wearing.... my white pajamas with tiny red rosebuds.  White socks on my feet 

and a pink checked robe.  My hair is in a ponytail, as always!

I am creating....nothing right now.  I have my nose in the books.  But I have beautiful

fabric just waiting for me to cut out and sew up into something lovely.

I am going.....to purchase some more books from Amazon.  I love to read!

I am wondering...if I should cook this evening or get take-out.  Spaghetti sounds good!

I am reading....St. Anne ~ Grandmother of Our Saviour, by Frances Parkinson Keyes.  

I was so fortunate to find this great book!

I am hoping.....to lose a few more pounds before my son's graduation.  He finishes high 

school, May 17th of this year!  I'm so very proud of him!  My first homeschooled

graduate!

I am looking forward to....summer!  Drinking pink lemonade, swimming at the

YMCA, eating watermelon and walking at night around ACU while looking at the stars!

I am learning.....to keep waiting and waiting for an acceptance letter into an RN

program.  

Around the house....there are beds to be made, floors to sweep, two bathrooms to

clean, Sadie needs to be fed/watered.  Patrick, our cat, is prowling around outside 

somewhere.

A few plans for the rest of the week...finishing up paperwork in both classes that I'm taking, 

going to work at the hospital, mailing out invitations to our son's high school

graduation,watching old movies, reading, praying.
 Easter weekend is coming up.

For Today.....

Outside my window.....It's so hot!! Feels like 110 degrees outside!  But it's not.  102.  Slightly breezy outside.  No birds in view.  They're all in the shade within the trees.  I perspire as soon as I step outside.

I am thinking.....about our air conditioning.  Our compressor finally went out.  No money there to buy a new one.  Would cost us four thousand dollars for a refurbished and six thousand for a new one.  No problem.  We went to the store and purchased some small units to place in our bedrooms and the kitchen.  It's not as luxurious as central air-conditioning.  But we are comfortable anyhow.  Can't explain it but our home feels even more comfy because of this.  Thank you God for this!  You provided as always.

I am thankful....for my job; yes I'm hanging in there.  The census at work has dropped, therefore we're taking turns at work being called off.  Using my PTO.  Providence.

In the kitchen....are paint brushes, old newspapers, hot glue guns and a box of mixed seashells on the counter.  Brought my statue of  'The Holy Family' from outdoors to freshen up with paint.  Has become very faded..  My daughter Melinda is creating a wall hanging with seashells and two 'spoolie dolls.'  So much fun to make!  We're all drinking iced tea like water;  wished we had a watermelon.

I am wearing..... one of my pretty blouses that I made.  Soft pair of blue jeans.  Hair piled up on my head.  Didn't have time to put on make-up.  Socks on my feet.  Won't go barefoot around the house.

I am creating....a pattern to be uploaded and printed on  fabric.  It has small violet hearts and the the words in cursive to 'O Bone Jesu'.

I am going.....to take a shower in a little while; right after I finish my coffee.

I am wondering.....about how I'm going to go about building a rabbit cage for the two rabbits which we got during Easter weekend.  They're in the house right now, in my oldest son's bedroom.  Their names are Brownie and Marshmallow.

I am reading....Rooted in Love by Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle and The Third Spiritual Alphabet by Francisco Osuna.  Have been reading these two for several weeks.  Enjoy taking the time to read and absorb.

I am hoping....for rain.  We so need it.

I am looking forward to.....having a movie night at our house with my daughters.  Homemade popcorn and an old movie favorite, Cheaper By The Dozen.  No, not the newer version, but the one that came out in the '50s.  

I am learning....to ask for help when I need it.  This one is tough.

Around the house......clean, quiet, can hear the soft noise from the small air conditioning units that my husband purchased for the house.

I am pondering.....over my Catholic faith; that which I live and breath.

A few plans for the rest of the week.....make a blue jean skirt, clean out my closet, make a pie (even if it is in the heat of summer), sit down and make a draft for building a rabbit cage.

For Today...

Outside My Window...it's very warm; but there's a breeze going on.  You can see the tops of the trees moving.  It's lovely to watch.

I am thinking...of the things I have to do and don't want to; because I'm tired!  The ceiling fans need to be dusted~again!  I have a small sinkful (thank goodness) of dishes that need washing.  My oldest son just went off to work.  My daughters are both homeschooling in their rooms.  

I am thankful... for another day.  We ordered pizza from 'Little Italy'.  Their food is so good!  

In the Kitchen...Jingles, our cat, is stretched out on the rug, dozing.  Coffee is on.  It's always on!  Can't go without it. And the sinkful of dishes, of course.

I am wearing .....a plaid shirt (evergreen and red) with loose comfortable faded blue jeans; barefooted, my hair is in a ponytail, face free of makeup.  Glasses perched on my nose, like an old granny.  But I'm not one, yet!  My oldest son will be eighteen in two days!  Time flies.

I am creating....shirts by the dozen for myself!!  Oh, how I love it!! Modest but pretty! 

I am going....to try and make orange curd!  I made lemon curd from scratch, the other day, and it was delicious.

I am wondering....about alot of things.  No one knows better than I, how your life can change in a second.     

My husband is moving back home after three years, three months separation.  I cried almost every night for over two years of that time.  Do I still love him?  Of course!  Am I afraid?  Yes!!  Has my prayer time increased?  

Yes!  I feel like I'm living in prayer.  When I awaken in the morning, the first thing on my mind...God.  When I retire to sleep...God.  Hold my hand, Lord so that I won't be afraid.  

I am reading...Rooted in Love by Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle and The Third Spiritual Alphabet by Francisco de Osuna.  

I am hoping...for a nice summer!  I want to make homemade rootbeer, do a little canning, sew and knit a little more,  and sew up some lovely ragdolls.  I heard of doll collecting, especially the porcelain kind.  I don't collect dolls but I just love to sew up ragdolls.  

I am looking forward to ..... a faith enrichment by participating in 'Lawn Chair Catechism At CatholicMom.com Summer 2013

I am learning....no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make everyone happy, that walked through my life.
Some people just don't want to act like friends; some family members don't want or act like family.  This one grieved me the most, will always turn their nose at you, will turn their back on you, even after giving them your love, your 'ear', when they needed someone to talk to.  How do I handle that?  Just forgive and go on....

Around the house...are reminders of what hearth and home means to me.  Our domestic church, as we Catholics put it.

One of my favorite things.....right now is Pinterest!!  So much fun and interesting!

A few plans for the week.....Mass, home cooking, more sewing, reading, lots of time with my children.

A peek into my day...

The images are a little dark; but I couldn't help but display some of my
blouses that I sewed.  This one is a cornflower blue.  I felt so pretty wearing it!

This blouse was my 'fun' shirt!  I love novelty fabric as well as novelty buttons!  Someday I hope to have
a little backyard chicken coop!

This is a blouse I experimented with using ribbon.  My sons like to see me wear it because of
the ribbon cross. The fabric is the loveliest shade of blue!

Another fun blouse with pale yellow glass buttons which I have had for perhaps
a decade.  Finally got to use them.

My Valentine's Day blouse I sewed up especially for this day.  I wasn't able to find a St. Valentine Medal
to put in the tiny secret pockets which I usually place inside my garments.

My 'chore day' blouse.  Pretty and fun to wear!


This blouse was made entirely out of left-over scrap material.  It came out so
pretty and comfortable.  All my blouses are loose, modest and comfortable.

I didn't know I had sewed so many until I stacked them all together.  I don't like to go shopping and
find nothing pretty or feminine to wear; everything these days seems to be too sheer, too clingy, or too
revealing. I'm not in the habit of wearing items that expose cleavage, etc.  I'm too old for that anyway
and my family would never approve.

 These are the tiny secret pockets I talked about earlier; this is a blouse I sewed up for St. Patrick's Day.
It has clover print all over.  The medal is that of St. Patrick.

This was my Sunflower blouse with a medal of St. Martin de Porres inside its
tiny pocket.

These are homemade sewing labels which I made using inkjet fabric sheets. They depict a sacred picture of
the Virgin Mary or a favorite saint with a favorite prayer of mine.


 Most purchased garments have a label at the neck giving instructions on the care of the garment.
I know how important this is since some clothing are delicate and  require special care.
I believe the soul requires just as much care, therefore I also place a prayer label reminder in all
of my sewing items, including whatever shirts or pants I sew for my family.  We humans all need a little bit of queuing, right?

For Today

Outside my window...it's been raining for several days.  It's 42 degrees; wet, dreary-looking weather.  Dirt spattered  in pools of rain all over our sidewalk.  Our cat Patrick is whining to come inside.  Can't do that but I did open the garage door so he could come and go as he pleased...which he does very well.   

I am thinking.... how good it feels to be in the house; warm, cozy with soft glowing light from our lamps.  There's books scattered across our living room couch, my bed, a stack of cookbooks on the kitchen counter and dining room table.  My daughters and I have been reading and reading.  It should be colder and snowing outside but it's not.  It's cold, wet and yucky. 

I am thankful....for today and everyday. 

In the kitchen....there's chili beans which I slow cooked earlier in the crock pot.  Cornbread atop the oven, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter cookie dough chilling in the fridge.  I'm going to try and make cookies tonight.

I am wearing... comfortable care-worn white pajamas with red trim, and a soft pink & peach checked  robe wrapped well around me.  I have on white socks with some old crochet slippers which I made years ago

I am creating....a list of new goals for myself for this year.  (Exercise more, eat healthier, write more in my journal~so therapeutic for me, keeping more time in prayer, going to bed earlier, etc.)

I am going....to the pharmacy tomorrow to pick up my son's asthma medications.  Mine or my daughters' scripts aren't due yet.  We're all asthmatic, unfortunately.

I am wondering....about tomorrow.  Will we have more rain?  We've had almost four days worth.

I am reading....'Rooted In Love' by Donna Marie Cooper I'Boyle.  It's a very good read and I'm not quite though with it.

I am hoping....for another good day tomorrow.

I am looking forward to  working on my sewing and knitting.

I am learning....how to quilt, make a rag rug.

Around the house... our house cats are scattered and sleeping on the couch, bed, on a windowsill.  My son is out with his father, my daughters and I are watching 'The Bishop's Wife'.  I just love to watch movies with Loretta Young.  One of my favorite actresses.

A few plans for the rest of the week....continue to enjoy my family time, cooking, reading and maintaining a clean home with the help of my children, keeping a spiritual environment, chaste minds, fresh smiling faces to reflect our love and providence in God and continue to be happy for all that he's done for us.

For Today

Outside my Window...it's nightfall.  The temperature has dropped.  I have my outdoor Christmas lights on.  They're bright red and trimming the front of my house;  so pretty! The neighbors have theirs on as well.  

I am thinking...about the bills that I have to pay tomorrow.  I tell myself, all the time, that my children and I will be all right.

I am thankful......for my faith, my kids, for the roof over our head, my life, my job.

In the kitchen...there's leftover gingerbread cake on the kitchen counter.  There'll be some for breakfast in the morning.

I am wearing... faded blue jeans, a yellow calico blouse that I sewed up last summer.  Hair in a ponytail, glasses perched on my nose~forever falling forward with me constantly pushing them back in place.  White cotton socks on;  refuse to walk barefoot inside the house or anywhere.  

I am creating...a grocery list of things we need for the house.

I am going...to bed in little while; starting to get sleepy.

I am wondering...what this new year will bring.  

I am reading...'Rooted In Love',  by Donna Marie Cooper O'Boyle;  I absolutely enjoy all of her books.  They thoroughly lift me up spiritually.

I am hoping...to get in some sewing and knitting tomorrow.  

I am looking forward to...some very enjoyable reading this year.  I have a huge stack of books that I want to catch up on.  Can't wait!!

I am learning...to accept people and certain matters in my life for what they really are and to accept myself for what I really am.  I'm committed to my faith and children; and I'm very very old-fashioned.  I've  been called a huge  'square' and I'm not embaressed about it. I'm glad.

Around the house...my oldest son has already retired to bed.  He has to get up and go to work early in the morning.  My daughters are watching a little television before going to bed.  Our five cats are all put up for the evening.  (Patrick~sleeps in the garage.  Clare, Margaret, Bernadette and Jingles sleep in one of our spare bathrooms.  Sadie (our pooch) is asleep in her little bed.  The christmas tree is glittering with lights; the house feels so cozy and warm!

A few plans for the rest of the week...a trip to St.Vincent de Paul tomorrow.  My daughters and I enjoy rummaging through the clothes and books they have.  We have the best time there.  Have to work this coming weekend at the hospital.  Prayers and rosaries to be said.
